Trainee Assistant Director Course

So last week (20th, 21st and 22nd January) I attended the Northern Ireland Screen Trainee AD 3 day training course. The course had 3 elements:
  • Trainee AD 1 day course – a classroom based overview of the AD department including the duties and responsibilities of a Trainee AD along with essential Set Etiquette, this was with the well respected local 1st AD Darren Fee, very enjoyable day, a great instructor and he just had so much knowledge to share.
  • Emergency First Aid At Work course – 1 day course. Qualification obtained at the end of this day long course is valid for 3 years.
  • Industry Health & Safety Training – BECTU Creative Industries Safety Passport – 1 day course. Qualification obtained at the end of this day long course is valid for 3 years.
On completion of the course I've been offered 1 additional full day’s training on the set of a Northern Ireland Screen funded production in the following months, with Darren Fee as 1st. Really worthwhile course for anyone considering becoming an AD. I'm really looking forward to my day on set with Darren to soak up as much information as I can 🙂  I think a lot of people just fall into trainee AD-ing through knowing someone rather than having any training, so it's good to have some foundation before I try and see if I can get some jobs doing it.
